Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Here are some common questions answered (click to reveal):
  • When & where do I buy a map?

The maps cost £3 each and are available from either The Foxes' Den, Daphne's Coffee Shop or Binfield Village Stores on the days the hunt is open.

  • Where do we park?

Firstly, if you're local and can walk to the hunt then we encourage you to do so as we expect it to be quite busy.

If you do need to park locally, Newbold College are offering parking for the week. There is a pay and display car park at Oakmede shops, please pay VERY close attention to the regulations for this car park.

Additionally there is parking at All Saints Church (not on Sunday), St Marks Church and Newbold College.  Please click the links for Google Maps.

Please park considerately of others as the village has many families and elderly residents.

  • What age range is this aimed at?

It's open to everyone and in previous years we've seen new born babies going round and those in their 80's...so whether you fancy a stroll round by yourself or you're coming with friends and family, don't think twice - just come and enjoy yourself!

  • What do I need to bring?

We'd recommend bringing a pen to mark off the scarecrows you've seen, some change to buy the maps (£3 each or two for £5) and waterproofs / umbrellas just to be prepared.

  • How long does it take?

It depends how fast you walk but we expect it to be around 2.5 hours on average. There is no requirement to do the whole thing and some people have had fun doing half one day and half another. Do whatever you feel is fun!

  • Does it still happen if it rains?

Absolutely! Last year we had kids out in their waterproofs and wellies having a fantastic time. Don't forget we've got a fantastic coffee shop & various pubs in walking distance if you need to warm up a bit.

  • Do I need to complete the whole route?

No there's no need to complete the route. When you buy your map you'll clearly see where all the scarecrows are located so you can do as many as you can. You can also return at any point during the hunt and finish it off if you want to.

  • Where can we get refreshments on the route?

The best places are The Foxes' Den community cafe, Daphne's Coffee Shop and Binfield Village Stores (all of which are where you buy the maps from) or there is a local Co-op store and pubs including the Victoria Arms and Stag and Hounds.
